Our Story
FreeTimeline was born from frustration. We were writers, game masters, and memory keepers who needed a simple way to map events across time — whether for a novel, a D&D campaign, a family history project, or just our own lives.
Every tool we found either wanted our email, our credit card, or worse — our data. Cloud storage sounds convenient until you realize a company you've never met now holds your personal stories, your creative work, your memories.
We decided to build something different.
Why We Built This
The internet has trained us to accept surveillance as the cost of convenience. Sign up for this, agree to that, let us track you everywhere so we can "improve your experience." We think that's backwards.
Your stories are yours. Your memories are yours. Your creative work is yours. You shouldn't need to hand them over to a corporation just to organize them on a timeline.
FreeTimeline stores everything in your browser's local storage. We never see your data. We can't see your data. There's no server receiving your timelines, no database holding your memories, no algorithm analyzing your stories.
What Makes Us Different
We don't have a business model that depends on your data. We don't show you ads. We don't sell your information. We don't even know who you are — and we prefer it that way. FreeTimeline is a tool, not a platform. Use it, close the tab, and take your stories with you.
Two Tools, Two Worlds
Universe Timeline is for fiction. Map the history of your fantasy world, track Marvel storylines, organize your novel's plot across centuries. Characters, factions, events, arcs — all visualized on a timeline you control.
Biography Timeline is for real life. Record your own milestones, relationships, and personal chapters. Keep a private record of your journey through time. Your memories, your museum.
Both tools work entirely offline once loaded. Both save to your browser. Both let you export your data as JSON so you always have a backup.

FreeTimeline is built by a small team of developers and writers who believe the web can be better. We're not venture-backed. We're not trying to become a billion-dollar company. We just wanted a good timeline tool that respects its users — so we made one.
